Luxury Materials and Design Detailing
Back in 2017, at the RHS Tatton Flower show, our clients were captivated by Michael John McGarr's award-winning garden design. Winning Gold, Best in Category, and Best Construction, it's no wonder they wanted a piece of his expertise for their garden design in the Ribble Valley.
The client brief was clear-cut: they wanted a garden design that seamlessly blended with their newly constructed home and the mesmerising countryside. The architect and builder had employed exquisite materials for the house. Similarly, the garden's design and specification were crafted with the same attention to detail.
Our garden design approach was meticulous. We zoned the garden during the design stages to encapsulate a myriad of diverse living spaces. While ensuring privacy, it was essential to incorporate vantage points that offered breathtaking views of the Lancashire countryside.
We opted for a geometric design layout, drawing inspiration from the property's architectural lines. Given that the existing garden rises gently towards the scenic hills, this elevation was skilfully integrated into the garden design for a visually enchanting finish.
A standout feature is the Outdoor Spa area, boasting a spacious hot tub. Sunken into a durable charcoal composite deck, it offers relaxation all year round. Adjacently, the aluminium-covered structure creates an idyllic setting for morning teas or entertaining guests.
Our Garden Design ethos always promotes sustainability. The Outdoor Room, with its dedicated louvre roof, not only offers technological control via mobile devices but also harvests rainwater, which is utilised across the garden.
Food enthusiasts will love the outdoor kitchen, complete with an ALFA Italian wood-fired pizza oven and a Beefeater gas barbecue. Coupled with a beer pump, it sets the tone for delightful days and nights in the garden.
Moreover, the Outdoor Room, equipped with underfloor heating, provides a comfortable perch to appreciate the elevated planting borders.
The centrepiece? A complex water feature with seven pumps, nestled beneath large concrete steps. It offers an auditory experience, making evenings in the garden serene.
Our clients' feedback on the garden has been overwhelmingly positive. We're excitedly preparing for a second phase of planting, set to unveil in Autumn 2019.

MJM STUDIO completed a large garden design project for us at our previous house. They managed the project from initial design through to build completion. Throughout the process they delighted us from a design that was both sympathetic to the wider area but also blended with our new home. They were professional, friendly and respectful during the build and minimised the disruption associated with a large build project. My wife and I were thrilled with the end results and I would have no hesitation in recommending” – Patrick Gormley
